Ideas and technique to help you promote and image radio

Great radio station marketing

There are some creative marketing monkeys in radio right now coming up with some nice stand out ideas. Whether they help amplify the stations local creditably, push a specific show or reinforce the music policy – it’s great to see what others are doing out there.

Here’s some bits and pieces that have struck a chord with me recently:

More FM

New Zealand based radio network, More FM  have created a TV creative to help amplify their Live It, Love It, Sing It proposition. A simple strapline which is well executed in the following TV creatives running across NZ.

Capital FM Scotland

A little bit closer to home – Global Radio have teamed up with Strathclyde Partnership for Transport to brand up a series of Subway carriages across Scotland for the next 12 months.  I’ve seen some great radio station bus sides and taxi creatives before – but never a train carriage.  Great stand out and they look visually strong.  Fantastic to push the local edge of the station and to be seen as actually taking the listeners on the way to work in the morning.

Pirate FM – Bag Brad

It’s not a brand new idea but nice to see Pirate FM‘s touch on it. The station for Cornwall are celebrating the fact that one of Hollywood’s biggest names is filming in their TSA. Brad Pitt is filming for his new movie in Falmouth and the station have put up a £500 bounty if a listener can get Mr Pitt on air. A fun idea, great talk-ability, content building and puts a sprinkle of ‘showbiz’ on the station.

Real Radio North East Breakfast Bites

Again, not a new idea – but the Breakfast team at Real Radio North East have become a little more animated in their delivery thanks to a local animation company. Animation video are great in today’s  ‘content is king’ world. I worked on the marketing for a series of animated videos featuring Baddiel and Skinner and their World Cup podcasts last year and they received fantastic viral appeal.  Radio Real have ensured they market the animation videos well across all social platforms including Facebook and YouTube to ensure they become a viral. They are also running a ‘Share this Video’ and win £500 promotion via their website too.

Programme Controller Jon Kirby told RadioToday.co.uk: “The Real Radio Breakfast Bite is a really fun way for people to see the personalities of Gary and Lisa come to life, in a way that not only compliments, but amplifies the fun and humour within the show. With so many of our listeners regularly interacting via social media platforms, we’d like to think that when these videos are posted on a Monday morning, Gary and Lisa put smiles on faces, that go on to be shared with friends.”
