Kerrang Radio to launch Smart TV app

Bauer Radio will launch new Smart TV app for the Kerrang radio brand in as part of a partnership with local digital agency, TBC Digital in the coming months.

Kerrang joins other radio brands like Absolute Radio (who launched their Samsung Smart TV app in December 2011) on the Samsung Smart TV service alongside other lifestyle brands like Facebook, BBC iPlayer and Neflix. This will strengthen the stations’ appeal to national audiences and advertisers (Kerrang radio has about 1 million national listeners via digital versus is 300,000 listeners via FM in West Midlands).

Samsung Smart TVs are capable of connecting to the internet and downloading content allowing for a consumer the experience very similar to that of a smart phone. The Kerrang Smart TV app includse access to additional radio content such as presenter profiles, social media feeds, song downloads (via QR code) and on demand content from Kerrang’s specalist shows such as Klub Kerrang, Unsigned Show and Temple of Doom.

Kerrang’s offering will be previewed at the opening of the new Samsung Academy in Kidderminster, a new facility which will train up to 1000 16-18 year olds in the design and creation of apps for smart phone and smart TV devices.

It seems the convergence of radio and TV is becoming more the norm these days as Global Radio’s Heart and Capital brands launched their own music TV channels last week.
