Chris Stevens composed the jingles and then musicians at TM Studios in Dallas laid-down the tracks together in live sessions before vocals were added back in the UK for Smooth Radio and in the US for Smooth 70s.
This modus operandi enables Smooth to retain the rights in the compositions and earn appropriate royalties against that work, effectively turning its jingles production from a cost to a source of revenue.
It’s a model already used on Real Radio and additionally offers Real and Smooth the flexibility to work with any production company they like. Indeed, Smooth Radio continues to use some cuts produced with Wise Buddah that feature the same station logo melody.
On this occasion, the new work with TM Studios yields two hour openers with sings for all Smooth Radio presenters, five full jingle themes with ramp/slogan/shotgun mix-out alternatives and three additional short jingles in relaxed tempos.
Steve Collins, programme director for Smooth Radio released a quote to the industry press today:
The station prides itself on its music selection and 3.7 million* listeners each week across the UK agree. The new jingles have captured the essence of Smooth Radio and really reflect what listeners can expect when they tune into the station.
Chris Stevens independently runs Ignite Jingles where stations around the world can take advantage of his talents.
