Ideas and technique to help you promote and image radio

What on earth are we up to?

It’s always good to hear from friends of Earshot on social media, and from recent comments on Facebook and Twitter it’s clear that we should let you know what we’re up to a little more often.

It’s nice that you care so here’s a peep into our calendars.

Jonathan

Right now Jonathan Jacob is recovering from completing an epic charity trek in the Grand Canyon. Judging by the photos on Facebook he celebrated the achievement in the casinos of Las Vegas but every penny he raised will be going to the radio charity Help a Capital Child, and not on the roulette wheel.

You can still make a donation if you like. At the time of writing JJ’s just £500 off target.

When Jonathan’s back and rested I’m hoping he’ll be able to tell us something about goal-setting discipline – something all creatives need and, in my experience, can really struggle with. I know I do.

Steve

I’ve been in Africa’s most exciting city, Lagos, meeting tv, radio and digital clients from across Southern Nigeria and working with colleagues from BBC Radio 1Xtra including DJ Edu. Listen-out for some Afrobeats themed specials soon.

Next stop this week is the Creative Loop Student Media Festival in Glasgow with John Collins, Colin Paterson, Jim Gellatly, Des Clarke and other luminaries of Scottish broadcasting. Looking at the schedule George Ergatoudis and I are the only speakers crossing the border. Depending which way September’s referendum goes it could be the last time we can do that without a visa.

The following week brings RadioDays Europe in Dublin. I have several interviews set-up including a recording of the Earshot Creative Review – our podcast that plays great radio production with the producers who make it. If you’re planning to attend RadioDays Europe and would like to get involved do let me know.

Meanwhile, I’m trying to make time to edit an edition of the podcast recorded a few weeks ago in London with Nathan Freeman of 6 Music and James Espley of TeamRock. Goal-setting discipline is needed once more.

New friends

Finally, let’s extend a warm welcome to Reelworld who are supporting the Earshot Creative blog and podcast this year. Like Jonathan and I, they love nothing more than helping people make great radio.

Right, that’s it. You’re up to date.
