With some of the world’s best comedic, artistic and creative talent taking over the city of Edinburgh across August for the Fringe Festival the creative team at Global Radio is launching an open studio and creative hub, giving brands and agencies access to the best vocal talent from the festival with the aid of improving radio creativity.

Who’s it for …and why?

The Open Studio Sessions serve a dual purpose. For creative agencies, they offer a chance to address a difficult brief, or demonstrate how best to bring comedy or a new interpretation to a radio script. For emerging talent, the sessions will open-up commercial opportunities and provide a platform to showcase their skills.

Global Radio will facilitate this by bringing together some of the best talent the festival has to offer, teaming them up with some of the most innovative agencies around, and producing a demo or radio scamps free of charge. These will all be produced by Global’s multi award-winning creative team, who have picked up accolades at Cannes Lions, the Radio Academy Awards, and the London International Awards, to name just a few.

Industry feedback …

It seems that the initiative is getting some positive feedback across the creative industry:

Gerry Human, executive creative director at Ogilvy & Mather, added: “We’re thrilled to be able to share our ideas with so many talented artists. This initiative from Global is exactly the kind of thing we need, to support more risk taking in radio.”
Ross Neil, creative director at WCRS, commented: “The best adverts are often the alchemy of a great idea performed by great talent. Global is giving us access to the greatest performing talent in the world. Now it’s our job to craft some world class scripts.”

Getting involved ….

The team are on the hunt for any scripts, briefs, drafts, sketches or radio ideas and they’ll mock them up, time permitting, in the studios. Also, if any voice agents, actors, creatives or voiceovers are looking to get involved – then email edfest.studio@thisisglobal.com to get involved!

Radio at the fringe

On the subject of the Fringe Festival – there’s plenty of opportunity to see radio people do their things on stages/bars/venues including shows from across all BBC national Radio Networks, BBC Scotland and BBC Local Radio as well as XFM’s Josh Widdicombe, Absolute Radio’s Christian O’Connell and much more!

Jonathan Jacob is Content Solutions Manager at Global Radio with varied experience across commercial radio S&P, events, marketing and PR. He was listed in the inaugural Radio Academy 30 under 30, is a Student Radio Awards judging co-ordinator and sits on the Events Committee for The Radio Academy. Views are personal.
